ByteAsk raises $1m pre-seed for C and C++ coding agents

The developer tool checks proposed changes with the project’s compiler, tests and debugger, giving engineers the results alongside the code.

A code change can compile and still fail once it reaches real hardware or a running process. ByteAsk connects its agent to the toolchain engineers already use to investigate those problems. It can edit a repository, run compilers and sanitizers, and inspect a program through an engineer-started debugger bridge. The engineer reviews both the proposed change and the resulting tool reports.

The terminal and editor tool is available to install, with options for managed models, a developer’s own API key or a self-hosted server. ByteAsk also retrieves references from language standards and hardware documentation. The founders are targeting systems teams in trading, automotive and embedded software; their roadmap includes a model specifically post-trained for C++. Y Combinator and Entrepreneur First backed the round alongside individual investors.

What the funding supports

  • Expand engineering and research teams
  • Invest in GPU compute and training data
  • Develop enterprise security and on-premises infrastructure
