A backend developers can assemble quickly

Supabase supplies the services behind an application: a Postgres database, user accounts, file storage, realtime updates and server-side functions. Developers connect their web or mobile interface through client libraries and APIs, reducing the amount of infrastructure they need to assemble before an app can store data and serve users.

Its Next.js quickstart shows the practical workflow: create a project and table, grant database permissions, define access policies, then connect the application and read data. Developers still define their data model and decide which users may access which records.

The database remains the foundation

Each project has a full Postgres database. The surrounding services build on that database, so teams can work with SQL, familiar database tools and extensions as well as Supabase APIs. This is useful to application teams that want an integrated backend while retaining a conventional relational data model.

An operating platform expanding for agents

Supabase is already used to build and run applications. In October 2026, the company reported more than 13 million developers and said agents or AI tools created 70% of its new databases. Those are company-reported adoption figures.

The announced Turso acquisition addresses a further workload: large numbers of isolated databases that agents can create on demand. Supabase said Turso would continue operating with a path into its ecosystem. That proposed integration expands the product direction; the existing Supabase backend already combines database, identity and application services.
