Modulate raises $25m to bring conversation analysis to more developers

Future Ventures led the financing for audio models that detect fraud, synthetic speech and problematic behavior in voice conversations.

A transcript captures words but leaves out much of how a conversation unfolds. Modulate’s Velma combines specialized audio models to identify tone, emotion, intent and synthetic speech. Developers can turn those signals into alerts during a live call or use them to review recordings for fraud, harassment or a voice agent departing from its instructions.

The company brings experience from ToxMod, its voice moderation product used by game publishers including Ubisoft, Activision and Rockstar Games. Its broader platform lets customers define behaviors through procedures and playbooks, then send flagged moments into their existing risk or case-management systems. Modulate says it analyzes more than 10 million audio hours a month; the new financing takes its cumulative funding to $60m.

What the funding supports

  • Develop audio-native AI models
  • Expand developer APIs and SDKs
  • Grow research, engineering and partnerships
